Hurricane season 2005 has become synonymous with Hurricane Katrina: the costliest and one of the five deadliest hurricanes to ever strike the United States. All this, and Katrina had weakened to a category three status before making landfall.

Within two days of the city of New Orleans being opened to key recovery personnel, TechLoss’ engineers were armed with special clearance papers and were being escorted through town by the National Guard.

Our clients in New Orleans understood the importance of handling compromised electronics early in the game. So often we will hear from insurance companies, “We are working on the structural damages right now -- we’re getting to the contents next.”  But electronics are not just your ordinary pieces of content. Did you know that by quickly reaching affected electronics and stabilizing the breached environments (removal of water, dehumidification, spraying with oils to halt the formation of rust, etc.) you give yourself options. Options that can save your company big money. Repair, restore, re-warranty and retrieving data are all possibilities now open to you. Business interruption can be greatly minimized.

The City of Kenner understood this.  Their insurance carrier brought in the experienced staff of TechLoss engineers to immediately consult with them regarding the best options for bringing electronics from businesses such as the Pontchartrain CenterPontchartrain Center, the Kenner Planetarium and KTV76 back to a pre-loss condition most effectively. Savings in the millions were realized. The same goes for many businesses downtown, including Turo, Tipitina’s, Park Plaza and Hurwitz Mintz where big savings and satisfied insureds were the norm. The key to these successes? Beating the clock and teaming with TechLoss.

The National Hurricane Center’s latest forecast for the 2006 season calls for more Atlantic hurricanes than usual. Max Mayfield, NHC director, expects 12-15 named storms, with seven to nine gaining hurricane status. Of those, three or four will grow to Category 3 strength (major hurricane status) or greater.

We are now at the peak of the hurricane season (early to middle September.) Are you ready? It’s not too late to add the experience of the TechLoss team to your early response CAT plans. Call 877-TechLoss (832-4567) now.
